Brandt Brand Brant

I recently came across the work of William Powhida, I quite enjoyed his cutting criticism of the art world/market and particularly this drawing which i noticed for the mention of artist Josh Smith.

I was making paintings with names scratched into them when someone told me to look at Josh Smith's work and I couldn't resist thinking the paintings where terrible boring and ugly, but for those reasons I thought they were great! I have been looking for painters with this seeming carelessness as if paint on canvas was the only thing necessary to classify something as art. This type of painting seems very liberating. It is liberated from the pretensions and headaches of deeply philosophical conceptual work or depressingly pessimistic socially critical work.

And how does all this connect back to tumblr and cute boys?
Peter Brant has two sons who I reblogged on tumblr a while ago without knowing anything about them.
